As I was listening to Pastor Matt on Sunday and how he walked us through the final chapter of Philippians, I couldn’t help but be floored by the expanding mystery of God’s word.
Philippians 4:13 – “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
As a high school and college athlete, these words were a welcomed truth that I held on to. I believed it to be speaking to my physical abilities. It never occurred to me that this could have been speaking towards something else. But it makes perfect sense when you read it as a part of this larger letter…not just as a bible verse to write on eye-black.
But in the lens of where Paul is as he pens this letter. What he is experiencing. What his current setting is… physical strength seems to be secondary to his heart.
Contentment is defined as, “being satisfied or pleased.” For I can be satisfied and pleased in everything through Christ Jesus. This changes the entire way we read this. At least it does for me.
So today, where are you? Where are you needing to be reminded of this simple truth?
“Contentment frees us from the endless pursuit of more and better.” – Pastor Matt
I love you all.
Grace + Peace + Love.
