Henri Nouwen wrote a short book called Out of Solitude. Seriously, it’s tiny. And even though it’s short, it has had an incredible impact in my life. It’s a book I come back to often when I find myself trying to cultivate the rhythm silence + solitude. I read a few lines and reflect, read a few lines and reflect. Here’s a line I’ve underlined at least 5 times as I’ve read it:
- – Find a quiet spot on your lunch break or in the morning or after the kids go to bed.
- – Read the verse of the day on YouVersion or a Psalm.
- – Set a 5/10 minute timer on your phone.
- – Be still. Just quiet your mind and wait on the Lord.
Start there, and then try again tomorrow. And then again the next day. Maybe set a reminder in your phone for the same time each day until it becomes a rhythm you have built into your life.
